Greetings, Curlies!

It’s been a while, but I wanted to be sure I came on to document a recent discovery about my hair! If you’ve read any of my previous posts, a huge part of my “hair journey” has been figuring out how to care for my very high porosity hair. Previously, I’ve written about my regimen being washing my hair once per week, applying multiple products for wash and go’s, etc…

BUT!!…..

Recently, I’d been a little lazy with my hair and I went a weekend without washing it. Surprisingly, my hair still looked good! So, I wanted to experiment..I went another weekend without washing it..my hair STILL looked good! Lol. Long story short, I realized that I don’t necessarily need to wash my hair every week. I think I’ve been able to go longer in between washed recently because I’ve found a new staple conditioner! With this conditioner, I don’t have to apply multiple products to my hair for my wash and go’s. ALL I need is this conditioner, and my wash and go’s are BOMB. Because I’m only using one product in my hair, there’s not as much build-up on my hair, meaning I can go longer in between washes.

So, now all I do to my hair in the morning is spritz with water, rake through my conditioner, and that’s it! I’ve even discovered that I can also refresh my hair in the mornings using coconut oil instead of conditioner. Loving it!

This new conditioner has simplified my LIFE: Shea Moisture’s new leave-in is AMAZING. I’ll have to do a post on that alone lol. This just proves that finding the right conditioner can totally alter the way you take care of your hair. If you still haven’t found that product that conditions your hair and gives you what you’re looking for–KEEP SEARCHING because once you find it, it’ll be SOOO worth it!

Greetings, Curlies!

As the title says, I recently did some experimenting with my deep conditioning regimen. I’ve noticed over the past few months that whenever I rinse any product out of my hair, my hair tends to dry OUT–meaning, whenever I rinse out products, as the water is drying out of my hair, it really depletes the moisture from my hair. So, even if I’m rinsing out a deep conditioner, my hair still feels dry after rinsing it out because as my hair dries, it’s taking out the moisture that the deep conditioner helped to restore. My assumption is that this has something to do with my hair being very high porosity.

SO–my solution: leaving in my deep conditioner! So far, this has worked very well for me, especially since I use all-natural deep conditioners anyway. Because of that, I don’t really have to worry about leaving “bad” ingredients in my hair. Last week, I DC’d with Pura Body Naturals Chocolate Hair Smoothie and sealed with coconut oil. I put on a plastic cap and let it marinate in my hair overnight. The next morning, my hair was nice and juicy (lol), and I just styled my hair as usual. Usually, my hair feels pretty dry the first 2 days after a wash. BUT after doing this, I had SOFT first day hair! My hair felt so good.

So, this is probably how I will be deep conditioning my hair from now on–DC’ing overnight, sealing with an oil, and leaving it in. I noticed my curls were SO much smoother, shinier and more defined after using this method. I also noticed a lot less shedding, which I’m all about. If you think you have high porosity hair and notice your hair being dry after rinsing out your deep conditioner, give this a try, it may work for you too! (I would suggest using an all-natural conditioner.) Thanks for reading & Have a great week! 🙂

Til Next Time,

XOXO

Hey Curlies,

Maybe y’all can relate to my confession. Having high porosity hair + super PICKY hair = major problems for my pockets! I’ve found several products that I like and that my hair LOVES, but because I have to layer product upon product upon product in order for my hair to maintain moisture, it gets SO expensive!! For example–I went through an entire 8oz bottle of Karen’s Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia Leave-in Conditioner within a week ($16). I used up most of my Oyin Hair Dew within 1.5 weeks ($13). I FLY through a whole bottle of Shea Radiance Moisturizing Hair Milk in a week, if that long ($16). The first 2 products I use to moisturize my hair at night, and the Shea Radiance product I use to refresh it in the morning. Guys, that’s $45 a WEEK..$180 a MONTH on hair products. That doesn’t even include deep conditioners, oils, and shampoos. Smh..this is getting ridiculous. I need a 2nd job just to pay for my hair products!

I try cheaper products and my hair turns out dry and feels like it’s literally going to snap off of my head. The more expensive stuff is what I need, but I’m often forced to use other stuff just because I can’t always afford the other stuff. So frustrating. Smh.

*SIGH* Okay y’all, I just had to vent. Back to your regularly scheduled programming 🙂
